Tuckahoe State Park Campground

Surrounded by wooded marshlands, Tuckahoe State Park Campground offers 54 campsites to select from, though only 33 of them provide electric hookups. The good news is that freshwater is available throughout the entire campground. Each campsite offers a fire ring, a grate, and a table. Plus, the 60-acre lake is nearby.

You can also reserve one of their eight cabins. Each room comes with electricity, heat, and air conditioning.

Holiday Park Campground

Spread across 200 acres on the headwaters of the Choptank River, Holiday Park Campground offers a pleasant gateway deep into the woods. Amenities include 33 wooded campsites, water hookups, picnic tables, and an on-site store. Firewood must be contained in your vehicle before placing it on fire. Also, all pets must have proof of vaccination for rabies.

Duck Neck Campground

Located on the Chester River, Duck Neck Campground is your best option for experiencing a water-based adventure. Visitors can enjoy fishing, crabbing, and boating. You can select one of 356 full hookup RV sites and receive 30/50 amp services. Once you’re settled, head down to the town of Chestertown and explore its art galleries and local cuisines. 

Bay Shore Campground

At Bay Shore Campground, you have everything you need for a fulfilling multi-day camping experience. Some examples of on-site amenities include a playground, a basketball court, a camp store, and a boat ramp. The campsites offer splendid waterfront views, so you know you’re in for a relaxing afternoon. You also receive access to dump stations and electric hookup services. 

Best Time To Visit Tuckahoe State Park

Here is what you can expect from each season at Tuckahoe State Park.

Winter

Since Tuckahoe Park is on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, you should expect average highs between 39 and 49 degrees Fahrenheit. In January, the average low can dip to the upper 20s, making for an unpleasant overnight camping experience. On the upside, tourism is at its slowest during this season. 

Spring

By April, you can expect average highs in the mid-60s with overnight lows in the mid-40s. Though humidity is common during this period, rain is not. By May, average highs reach the mid-70s. Bring your hiking gear and explore the trails around the park. You might even spot blooming flowers on Nancy's Meadow Loop Trail.

Summer

You should expect large crowds during this period. This means lodging and other accommodations will likely be more expensive. The average high between July and August hovers around the mid-80s. For an enjoyable afternoon, take a guided canoe trip and paddle your way through the woods.

Fall

If you enjoy crisp weather and picturesque fall colors, then you’re in for a sensational overnight adventure. Average high temperatures in October remain in the high 60s. Overnight lows drop to the low-50s. Humidity is low, and the area receives little to no rain. 

Best Things To Do at Tuckahoe State Park

Here is a sample of the activities you can enjoy on your Tuckahoe State Park camping trip:

  • Hiking: For something simple, start on the 3.6-mile Pee Wee Trail. You’ll come across several ascents and descents. Alternatively, you can take the Lake Trail and enjoy a nice walk through a pine forest. 
  • Mountain Biking: The Creekside Cliff Trail is ideal if you’re looking for flat terrain. The 4.5-mile Tuckahoe Valley Trail is another option for mountain biking. Keep in mind that this is a shared trail, so you’ll likely encounter hikers and runners on your ride. 
  • Disc Golf: Grab your putter and head to the park’s disc golf course. This well-maintained course is mostly flat with sandy terrain. Try not to lose your ball in the surrounding thick trees!
  • Canoeing: Enjoy 20 acres of open water as you canoe through the park’s lake. You might even see muskrats swimming past you.
