Your California motorhome vacation can begin by looking at Bakersfield RV Rentals offered by Cruise America. Stop by our rental center for an affordable RV that's perfect for your needs - whether it's just the two of you or you're packing the whole gang. At Cruise America, you'll find helpful staff and fair policies, as well as plenty of useful tips for your RV adventure. With your RV rental in Bakersfield, incredible destinations are easy to get to … and hard to leave.

Bakersfield is known as the Southern Gateway to the Central Valley. It is the ninth largest city in California, and is quickly growing even bigger. This town is steeped in the history of music, and it was in Bakersfield that country music was born. It was known at the time as the "Bakersfield Sound."

Bakersfield is also home to an impressive collection of authentic restaurants that are locally owned, serving authentic cuisine. In fact, Bakersfield is home to the largest collection of Basque restaurants in the nation. These eateries offer traditional Basque meals, just like the owners' Spanish ancestors prepared them. These meals are served family style on long, trestle tables. The courses are hearty, usually with a meat or seafood entrée, and with wine glasses that stay filled by the wait staff.

Not only is there a lot going on in the town itself, but there are a host of towns located within two hours of Bakersfield that make for perfect day trips. This is just another reason you can't go wrong with an RV rental in California.

Here are a few suggestions:

Kern Canyon – The Kern River Valley is one of California's best-kept secrets. It is located east of Bakersfield, and connects the San Joaquin Valley with the Kern River Valley. It is traversed by SR 178, otherwise known as Kern Canyon Road. As you pilot your Cruise America motorhome into this region, you might swear that you were in West Virginia instead of California. There is a vast, beautiful wilderness with fishing, hiking, camping and exploring.

Castaic Lake – This is one of the State Water Project's largest recreational lakes. There are 29 miles of shoreline, and one of the major attractions to see while there is the 425-foot tall Castaic Dam. There are two bodies of water associated with the lake. The lower lake is for non-power boating and canoeing. Mid-May to mid-September is the swimming season on this lake. The upper lake is for power boating, fishing, sailing and jet skiing. It is stocked with bass, trout and catfish. There are boat rentals, as well as a bait and tackle shop available. To arrive at Castaic Lake from Bakersfield takes approximately two hours. Take I-5 from Bakersfield to the Lake Hughes Rd/Castaic exit. Turn left onto the Old Road and take the 2nd left onto Lake Hughes Rd and travel 10 miles to the lake.

Santa Paula – This is a great destination for RV travelers. Known as the Citrus Capital of the World, it offers a mild combination of climate, location, and charm. It’s nestled amongst the lemon, orange and avocado orchards in the Heritage Valley, and serves as a very popular destination to myriads of tourists and beauty seekers each year. There are perennial attractions and events for all ages, and of every interest, and the beauty of the oak-studded natural landscape is complimented by a huge variety of attractions and activities in the city. Santa Paula is easily reached via the 126 freeway, which connects the I-5 and the 101 between Santa Clarita and Ventura.

No matter which direction travelers pilot their Cruise America RV rental, they are bound to run into fun and beauty. Book your motorhome rental now for an unforgettable California vacation!
